Me

About Me

My Journey
I was born and grew up on a large farm near Ponteland in the North of England, surrounded by farm animals, wildlife and wide-open spaces. Those early years left me with a deep and lasting connection to the land, animals and the stories that come from a life in the country.
I emigrated to Australia in 1981, and life soon became busy with school, work, marriage and raising a family. Eventually, my husband and I moved to Greenmount, west of Mackay, near his hometown, where we wanted to give our girls the same wonderful rural upbringing I had experienced — surrounded by animals, horses, open spaces and the freedom of country life.
In 2009, I decided to rekindle my passion for art. I studied part-time at Mackay TAFE, where I completed a Certificate IV in Visual Arts. I loved being surrounded by like-minded people, sharing ideas and techniques, and discovering new ways to express myself creatively. It was an important turning point in my life and the beginning of a journey that continues to inspire me today.
I now regularly attend workshops with accomplished artists, always looking to learn, experiment and develop my skills. I work across a range of mediums, including graphite, acrylic, inks and mixed media, with oils being my predominant medium.
My greatest inspiration remains the natural world and the animals that have been such a constant part of my life. I strive to capture more than their likeness — I want to capture their spirit, character, energy and emotion. I love using texture, light and movement to create a sense of drama, atmosphere or simply the magic of a fleeting moment.
Art is both challenging and rewarding. There are certainly moments of frustration, but with every painting I learn something new. The more I paint, the more inspired I become — and I feel incredibly fortunate to still be discovering where this creative journey can take me.
