This is my new favourite painting . I fell in love with the image I used as my reference from the amazingly generous photographer Karen Broemmelsick. I was one of a few who sponsored her to visit Spain, to photograph the beautiful horses there on a planned workshop, a couple of months ago.
The image I used was cut off at the ears a little, so I gave him ears and a crest on his neck. I also played with the colours to create a more dramatic feel to the painting.
Capturing the power and movement of him was exciting and I loved ever stroke of paint I put on the canvas to create this painting. He is a stunning stallion and his name is Guapeton, which is Spanish and translates to meaning handsome, which he is, don’t you think?
The power and elegance of this horse is what I wanted to capture using strong colours and I am very pleased with the result. It wasn’t particularly for anyone , it was one that I felt very drawn to paint. The stretched canvas measures 51cm x 76cm or 20”x30” and is painted in oils.
