I hold Graeme Connors in the highest regard—not just as a talented musician and songwriter, but as a kind and generous family man, a true gentleman, and someone who gives so much back to our community. For this painting, I wanted to capture a different side of Graeme—not the public figure we recognize from album covers, but the songwriter and musician at home, immersed in his creative process, lost in thought and music.Graeme has achieved incredible success throughout his career, and I wanted this artwork to honour his immense talent. To make the portrait more personal, I asked Graeme to provide me with a list of words that resonated with him. He framed his list around three powerful questions: “Who helped me become me?” “To whom do I owe a debt of gratitude?” and “On whose shoulders have I stood?” The resulting list was extensive, and I used those words to create texture in the painting’s undercoat, embedding the names of those who have played a pivotal role in his artistic journey.
